Abu Bakr (ra) and the Licit Food
Abu Bakr (ra) was among those who adhered to every percept the Prophet (saw) exhorted his companions to do.He was always emphatic on what a Muslim should do and what he should not do. Among the Prophet's (saw) percepts that regulate the Muslim life are the proper means on which a Muslim depends on; his food, clothes, house and everything that come under his possessions should be earned in the proper legal way. If a muslim sought to feed himself and his family with licit food, his prayer will always be answered by God. It is narrated that Sa'd ibn Abi Al-Waqas asked the Prophet (saw) to pray to God to make him among the people whom God answers their prayers. The Prophet (saw) said to him:
Abu-Bak was always keen on the source of food he ate from; one day Abu Bakr (ra) was brought some food by his servant. Abu Bakr (ra) was so hungry and began to eat. His servant said to him:
said Abu Bakr (ra).
said the servant. No sooner had the servant ended his words than Abu Bakr (ra) began to put his finger into his throat to vomit the piece of meat he ate, but he could not. Soothsaying is prohibited in Islam. Seeing his insistence to vomit the piece of meat he had already eaten, people advised him to drink some water before putting his finger into his throat. So he did and kept putting his finger in his mouth until he vomited. People said to him you were about to kill yourself. He replied,
