A Discussion on the Christian Beliefs (Part Seven)
Z: Really I was confused when I read some parts of John's revelation. It describes God as a Monster that frightened me when I was a child. We may read in John revelation how God looks: 1:16 He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp double-edged sword extended out of his mouth. His face shone like the sun shining at full strength. 1:17 When I saw him I fell down at his feet as though I were dead. Can you imagine a God in this form. He described also God's throne in funny words:"4:5 From the throne came out flashes of lightning and roaring and crashes of thunder. Seven flaming torches, which are the seven spirits of God, were burning in front of the throne 4:6 and in front of the throne was something like a sea of glass, like crystal. In the middle of the throne and around the throne were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. 4:7 The first living creature was like a lion, the second creature like an ox, the third creature had a face like a man’s, and the fourth creature looked like an eagle flying. 4:8 Each one of the four living creatures had six wings and was full of eyes all around and inside. They never rest day or night, saying:
Then I saw standing in the middle of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the middle of the elders, a Lamb that appeared to have been killed. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 5:7 Then he came and took the scroll from the right hand of the one who was seated on the throne, 5:8 and when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders threw themselves to the ground before the Lamb. Each of them had a harp and golden bowls full of incense (which are the prayers of the saints). X: I think who compare such revelation and the Quran revelations, as the following examples, will be sure how Qur'an is a real revelation from God:
X: Another question, what is the real shape of Jesus? How does he look like? John imagined him as sheep in his revelations. So, which of the pictures we see of him here in Egypt or those we see in Italy or the third that can be seen in the US are more truthful? We have different forms indeed; so which one is the most truthful? Z: I believe that those different pictures are no more than mere imaginations that has no basis in reality. That is why theologians would gather and decide to reject many of such pictures or omit some parts of the Gospel because of being inconsistent. X: A Muslim is commanded to believe in everything contained in the Book of Allah and to believe in all Messengers. Almighty Allah says:
No one can give himself the right to add or move some parts of the Book of Allah. I also find many paintings depicting Jesus on the cross. Some of them depict him while being tied to the cross while others depict him fixed to the cross by some pins. Z: In fact, painters imagine many things that have no basis in reality. Also the issue of Jesus bleeding while on the cross, it is not mentioned in any of the gospels since Mark tell us that ‘all of them have left him and fled away.’ I believe that if the one on the cross was really Jesus, the disciples would have never left him. This confirms the saying that it was Judah, not Jesus.
