The Remarriage of Widows in Islam
Islam has given much interest to all the social problems that any society may face, among these problems that the world faced, including the Christian world, was the problem of remarriage. Though Christianity leveled scathing rejoinder to the second marriage and even set a number of punishments to whoever did it. Islam, the religion of Islam, never finds a problem with this kind of marriage but even encourages it through the example of the prophet. Reading the History of Islam which was guided by the Quran and the instructions of the prophet proves that remarriage was never a problem. Prophet Muhammad himself married after his first wife had died, his first wife, too, was a widow. All the wives of the prophet were widows with the exception of just one. So the prophet found no problem to marry widows, his companions followed him and they found no problem to marry widows. Taking care of widows is highly rewarded by God, so a Muslim finds remarriage from a widow a righteous act , add to this caring about the orphans is also rewarded by God. However a Muslim can offer marriage to a widow during her waiting period using indirect gentle suggestions.
